Paramus Veteran's Home MassParamus Veteran's Home Mass

The Bergen County Federation Knights of Columbus celebrated the 11th anniversary of the Mass Program at the Paramus Veteran's Home. Bishop Charles J. McDonnell, the State Chaplain of the Knights of Columbus, was the celebrant. He was assisted by Deacon Robert Glasner. State Treasurer Herb Meyer (far right) and his wife, Ann, and State Veterans Coordinator Edward Shellman (far left) were among those attending the Mass.

On the Second and fourth Saturdays of each month, members of the local Bergen County Knights of Columbus councils, under the leadership of Former District Deputies Bob Dondero and Mike Hess, arrange to have Mass said for the residents at the home.

Members of the Knights assist residents to get to and from their rooms. For those residents that are unable to attend Mass, volunteers bring the Eucharist to them.

Annual Father Washington MassAnnual Father Washington Mass

The Msgr. Peter B. O' Connor Assembly, #1543, and Father John P. Washington Assembly, #0656, provided an Honor Guard at the annual Father Washington Mass.

The Mass honors the memory of Father Washington, who along with three other chaplains and crew members, lost their lives on Feb. 3, 1943 when the USAT Dorchester was torpedoed and sunk in the North Atlantic.

The Chaplains, who were wearing life vests, gave them to four sailors when was learned that there were not enough vests for the crew.
