2011 Polar Bear Plunge
The 2011 Polar Bear Plunge was held on Saturday, February 26 in Seaside Hts. The air temperature was hovering around 40 Degrees while the water was a cool 36 Degrees.
Past State Deputy Tom Ciborski, as Team Captain, led the team into the icy Atlantic Ocean at 1 p.m. The team members were: Thomas Ciborski, PSD, Supreme Consultant; Matthew Ciborski; Mark Conklin; Joseph Egan; Michael Failla; Nicholas Garruto; John Gazis, FDD; Michael Hencinsky, FDD; Ray Lill, DD; Ann Meyer, Wife of State Deputy Herb Meyer; Len Piscetelli; Dan Rossi, State Secretary; Bob Rushnak; Andrew Savicky, FDD; Frank Sumanski.
The New Jersey Knights of Columbus were well represented. The South River K of C Boxing Club, Council 1711 and Council 3359, among others, sent teams. Next year we hope to plunge as 1 larger team.
The NJKofC Polar Penguins had the 12th highest total donations of 299 teams in this years plunge. There were well over 5,100 people plunging this year.
The team would like to thank those that donated to the Special Olympics, helping them raise over $8,000 dollars during this years plunge. Thanks also go out to Councils 7926, 8160 and 8415 for arranging a breakfast and a hot lunch for the team. Thank you also to Father Richard Rossell of Our Lady of Perpetual help Parish in Seaside Hts, for allowing the use of the Parish Center as a staging area for the Knights and the food served.
